This tree is a result of careful grafting, a lot of patience, and deep backyard gardening passion. Two of the varieties have started fruiting for the second time, and the results are truly satisfying!

🌱 Why Multi-Grafting?

Grafting allows gardeners to grow multiple fruit varieties on the same tree, saving space and creating diverse harvests. It’s especially useful in small gardens or urban backyards.

📈 Progress So Far:

  • Healthy growth from all grafted branches

  • Consistent flowering and fruiting in Arunika and Thai Red

  • Still waiting on the fourth variety to fruit—fingers crossed for the next season!

🌿 Tips for Growing Multiple Mango Varieties on One Tree:

  1. Choose compatible mango varieties.

  2. Graft during the right season (usually spring or early summer).

  3. Use proper grafting techniques like cleft or veneer grafting.

  4. Carefully monitor watering and fertilizer during the healing phase.

Banana Mango Tree Fruiting in Backyard | 2-Year Growth Journey | Seeds to Plate: The Garden Story

🌱 Banana Mango Tree Fruiting in My Backyard Garden – 2-Year Growth Journey | Seeds to Plate

If you’re a home gardener or planning to grow fruit trees, this post is for you! After 2 years of care and patience, my Banana Mango tree has finally started fruiting for the first time. Grown right in my backyard, this tree is a part of my green journey shared on my YouTube channel, Seeds to Plate: The Garden Story.

In this blog, I’ll take you through the full journey—from planting to first fruiting—with tips, experiences, and a video you won’t want to miss.

🍃 What Is a Banana Mango Tree?

The Banana Mango (also known as Amrapali or Mallika in some regions) is a hybrid mango variety known for:

  • Sweet, fiberless pulp

  • Small-to-medium fruit size

  • Rich aroma and flavor

  • Ideal for home gardens and containers

It’s perfect for tropical or subtropical climates and fruits in 2–3 years under proper care.

🏡 My Backyard Mango Tree Story: 2 Years of Growth

📅 Year 1 – Root Development Stage

I planted the Banana Mango sapling in a well-drained sunny spot in my backyard. In the first year, I didn’t use any fertilizer—just allowed the plant to develop strong roots.

  • Regular watering (early morning or late evening)

  • Mulching with dry leaves

  • No pruning in the first year

📅 Year 2 – Fertilizing and Flowering

In the second year, I introduced a light schedule of:

  • Organic compost (vermicompost, cow dung)

  • Balanced NPK fertilizer once in 3 months

  • Occasional neem oil spray for pest control

Soon, flower buds appeared, followed by tiny green fruits—a sign of success!

🥭 First-Time Fruiting: A Gardener’s Reward

There’s a special satisfaction in watching your first fruit grow. The Banana Mango tree rewarded my patience with a bunch of healthy, green mangoes—soon to turn yellow and sweet.

🌿 Quick Tip: Avoid over-fertilizing in the flowering stage. Too much nitrogen can reduce fruit setting.

🌿 Home Gardening Tips for Growing Banana Mango

If you're planning to grow a Banana Mango tree at home, keep these tips in mind:

Choose a sunny spot with good drainage
Let the roots establish for 12 months
Use a mix of organic and chemical fertilizers
Prune only lightly in the second year
Be patient—fruits come with time!
